Apple’s operating system, iOS, may have been quick out of the gate with the introduction of iPhones and iPads, but Android products are catching up and taking over.
In the 3rd quarter of 2012, a phone running the Android operating system outsold the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 combined. Although it may have been the first time Apple and iOS took a backseat to Android, it is clearly a developing trend. More Android devices are activated every day and every year than Apple’s iOS devices. The uptick in Android sales is making a mark in the market for smartphone apps, and while Apple still holds a lead there, the revenue from Android apps is quickly closing in.
